Life Is Not A Smooth Road

Life Is Not A Smooth Road

“Man’s many desires are like the small metal coins he carries about in his pocket. The more he has, the more they weigh him down.” People are often driven to excesses by an internal feeling that they have more than what they can hold. That something cannot be found in material possessions or earthly delights, or small pleasures, which fill the void temporarily. The void is created when you are out of tune with your heart and soul. When you obey your heart’s and soul’s guidance and follow your inspirations, you experience fulfillment.
Well, fulfillment can keep you healthy and lengthen your life. Once I met a 90 -year old woman and asked her what it was like to be in the nineties. She replied: “Well, it has been fascinating. It takes a lot of work just staying alive. Old age is not for lazy people. It belongs to those who are curious about what is happening in the world. Of course, the body sometimes creaks and groans but it is exciting to manage daily tasks without help. I can still enjoy flowers and be with my friends.”

Robert Frost once said: “Take what is given and make it over your way. My aim in life has always been to hold my own with whatever is going on, not against it.” My own grandfather who was 89 said: “ Joy to me is realizing that there may not be many days left. They should not spoil them with things that are minor and unimportant. I spend more time in the garden, taking walks and talking to people of my age.”

Life is made up of small pleasures and tiny successes. Helping a friend fly a kite, watching a bud, a walk in the woods and even laughing at oneself gives joy and pleasure unlimited. The saying is: “When you add pride to a city, you have a community. Bring learning to a pile of bricks and you have a school. Find religion in the modest structure and you have a sanctuary. Be cheerful and you light up the world.”
